<p>Being physically active and keeping fit are important factors for maintaining a happy lifestyle. Aside form the vanity factor of looking good, the active person can enjoy an enhanced immunity to sickness and disease, a less stressful disposition, better blood circulation (and the host of benefits that brings) and improved sleep patterns. These are just a few of the good things.</p>
<p>However there can be a downside to being physically active – the sports injury. Chronic pain is never a welcome guest, but it can be doubly frustrating if a sports injury causes discomfort <em>and</em> prevents you from enjoying your favorite sporting activities. Taking preventative measures against sports injuries is the sensible route for any athlete – pro or part-time enthusiast alike.</p>
<p>Just as the right equipment and safety gear will help on the outside, so will preparing your body on the inside help reduce the risk of a sports injury. Pre-exercise stretches and warm ups have been around for decades, but today many athletes are including chiropractic care to optimize their athletic performance and insure against sports injuries.</p>

Many people endure the agony of severe headaches and migraines on a weekly or daily basis, and yet we know very little about headaches, or their causes. However we do know ways to prevent or relieve the symptoms of a headache.</p>
<p><strong>Identify.</strong></p>
<p>Headaches come in many forms so identifying your headache is the first step. Migraines and tension headaches are the most common, although there are over 200 different types of headache. Keep a journal or log that describes the symptoms of your headache and consult a specialist if necessary who will help determine the type of headaches you are suffering from.</p>
<p><strong>Triggers.</strong></p>
<p>Headaches are usually caused by a single or multiple set of triggers. Bright and flashing lights, anxiety and stress, or lack of sleep are all headache triggers, as are certain foods such as cheese, chocolate, red wine and coffee. All of these serve to alter the nerve impulses to the brain that may cause headaches Once again, keep a journal and note down the things that seem to trigger your headaches and migraines. If you understand what it is that is triggering your headaches, you can learn to avoid them and thus decrease the frequency and potency of your headaches.</p>
<p><strong>Medicine.</strong></p>
<p>Over the counter drugs and other common pain medications and anti-inflammatories such as Asprin and IBU Profen can bring short-term relief from headaches, but it is believed that their prolonged use can actually make headaches worse. Yes they are an option, but not a long-term one. Prescription drugs, primarily Triptans, can offer more thorough relief, however these drugs are not suitable for many headache sufferers and can also bring serious side effects such as dizziness and nausea. So these too are a viable option but perhaps not the best method to combat headaches.</p>
<p><strong>Natural, Long-Term Solutions.</strong></p>
<p>Several natural solutions for headaches exist, which for the chronic or repeat sufferer are far kinder to the body than endless drugs and chemicals. Acupuncture is a Chinese medicine that has been practiced for hundreds of years and uses tiny needles to stimulate the body’s energy flow and stimulate the brain to release natural pain-reducing chemicals.</p>
<p>A healthier diet and lifestyle has also been found to alleviate headaches and migraines. A body with a proper sleep pattern and in good working order thanks to steady exercise and a proper diet, is a harmonious body, and it will thank you with fewer headaches.</p>

There are many things you can do to optimize the health and wellbeing of your back, some are obvious – don’t lift overly heavy weights – but need to be emphasized again, and some might be somewhat less known. Here are 10 tips to looking after your back and keeping it in a healthy condition.</p>
<p>1.  Understand why you have back pain. Usually back pain is not the result of an accident or trauma. Face up to the fact that you may eat too much and not exercise enough, both of which play a key role in the health (or lack thereof) of your back.</p>
<p>2.  Consult your doctor or chiropractic care specialist. You don’t self-diagnose when you have a virus or infection, you see a specialist; so do the same for your back. Find out why you have back pain and take advice on how best to correct it.</p>
<p>3.  Develop a healthier lifestyle. Once you know you suffer with back pain develop a healthier regimen for yourself. Better diet and regular exercises will both play big roles in improving your back, and your chiropractor or doctor can give you good advice on both.</p>
<p>4.  Start to monitor yourself throughout the day. Take note of how you treat your body throughout a typical day. Do you slouch when sat at your desk, or is your chair not back-friendly? Is your sofa too high or low for you and is your bed too soft and unsupportive? Do you put strain on your back when you get into or out of your car, or is any other physical activity hurting your back? Answer these questions and you’ll be able to treat your back better each day.</p>
<p>5.  Don’t try to be a gold medal weightlifter. You’re not competing in the Olympics so don’t try and be a hero with heavy objects. Pick up heavy items using the knees not the back, carry heavy objects close to you and not with outstretched arms, and if you must carry heavier items use a rucksack/backpack instead of a shoulder/tote bag.</p>
<p>6.  Keep things at eye level. Most people spend a lot of time looking at computer and television screens each day. Make sure they are at eye level so you do not have to crane your neck or bury your chin into your chest to view them.</p>
<p>7.  Stretch, stretch, stretch! This is particularly important for anyone who spends a lot of their day at a desk or computer screen. Take the time to stand, walk around and stretch out your neck and back muscles. Try and do this at least once an hour.</p>
<p>8.  Maintain a good posture. Slouching puts a strain equivalent to 100lbs on your back, so sit up straight and your back will thank you.</p>
<p>9.  Stop smoking. As if this needed to be pointed out, however, smoking is believed to reduce blood supply to the discs in the back and smokers are 80% more prone to chronic back pain than non-smokers.</p>
<p>10.  Visit your chiropractic care specialist on a regular basis. A spine specialist will treat your existing back pain and help you to minimize the risks of any future back problems.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are many facts, theories and ideas when it comes to health and nutrition. But there are two facts that are indisputable. These are two facts that all opposing parties in the health and nutrition world cannot disagree on. They are:</p>
<p><span id="more-387"></span></p>
<p>Fact #1:  People that eat the Western diet of highly processed, sugar-laden, chemically altered foods suffer high rates of diseases such as diabetes, heart and coronary artery disease, joint disease, osteoporosis, and cancer. In fact, most degenerative diseases, which are responsible for eating up more than 80% of our entire $2 trillion annual health bill, are caused by the Western diet.</p>
<p>Virtually all of type 2 diabetes and obesity is caused by this diet. And eight out of ten people with heart and coronary artery disease have this diet as the root cause of their disease. Finally, one of every three people with cancer can trace their cancer to this diet. And these are just a few examples that are testament to the indisputable Fact #1.</p>
<p>Fact #2:  People that eat traditional diets generally do not suffer from these diseases. And it almost does not matter if the diet is high protein, high fat, or high carbohydrate. What does matter is that traditional diets are composed of real food, totally unlike the highly processed foods of the Western diet.</p>
<p>The Western diet is not really the cause of our disease and suffering. We are &#8211; by choosing to eat unhealthy processed foods while neglecting real food. If you get off the Western diet, you will enjoy dramatic health improvements in a short period of time. Studies have shown that if you get off the Western diet for just 6 short months, you will enjoy an 80% reduction in your risk of getting heart and/or coronary artery disease, a 90% reduction in your risk of getting type 2 diabetes, a 70% risk reduction in getting colon cancer, and so on.</p>
<p>And what is the food, medical, media and pharmaceutical industries’ response to these amazing facts- facts that if acted on could balance the health care budget in a year? They ignore them. And why? Because there is too much money to be made in selling highly processed foods, and then caring for and producing drugs and medical treatments for all the people who do not know they can cure themselves. Instead, we search for the “culprit” in our diet that causes our disease- be it trans-fats, or cholesterol, or red meat, or eggs, or butter, or whatever the topic of the month turns out to be.</p>
<p>Other try to promote the missing vitamin, amino acid, herb, or other nutrient as the “culprit” causing our diseases. The problem is that their solution almost always takes the form of another highly processed, chemicalized, and even industrialized substance that your body can barely digest and utilize. These “vitamin supplements” are usually produced and marketed for pennies, labeled as “natural,” and sold at hundreds of times their cost.</p>
<p>I can guarantee that all your disease parameters will improve, and that you will need to have your prescriptions weaned or eliminated. Once this is accomplished, your need for doctor visits will diminish and disappear. And you will feel and look better than you have in years.</p>
<p>It is not all that complicated. The indisputable facts are that we cause our own disease and suffering because food, medicine, and drugs are giant money-making industries. We can get off of the food/medical/pharmaceutical merry-go-round to enjoy major health improvements quickly, easily, and for free.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My experience has taught me that <strong><em>adrenal exhaustion </em></strong>is a real condition that causes serious problems, including exhaustion, chronic fatigue, malaise, light-headedness, stress, chronic colds, and a feeling as if life is a constant struggle of walking uphill.  Most medical “experts” feel that adrenal exhaustion is a hoax.  Even Dr. Andrew Weil rejects the idea that constant stress weakens your adrenal glands, causing health problems.</p>
<p><span id="more-276"></span></p>
<p>Perhaps the grandest rejection of all comes from the president of the American Institute of Stress, Dr. Paul Rosch, a clinical professor of medicine and psychiatry at New York Medical College.  He says that adrenal fatigue or exhaustion is a worthless diagnosis, and that lavish testimonials and anecdotal claims of marked improvement following some intervention are most likely fraudulent or transient placebo effects.</p>
<p>In fact, the adrenals are almond-sized glands that sit atop the kidneys.  They produce hormones such as adrenal and cortisol.  They are the prime responders to chronic stress – for example, they enlarge during periods of severe stress.  And the reason most physicians have little opinion about the diagnosis of adrenal exhaustion is because they do not understand it.</p>
<p>Most physicians support the belief that the adrenal glands are either working or they are not.  When they are not working, the diagnosis is adrenal insufficiency or Addison’s disease, caused primarily by a tumor, cancer, autoimmune disease, or infection.  For most of the medical world there is no <strong><em>gray zone</em></strong> where the adrenals slowly wear down and become weak.  Even though other glands and organs routinely weaken, enlarge, shrink, or change function (such as the thyroid gland), the medical world believes that this does not pertain to the adrenal glands.  And, in fact, adrenal exhaustion is a hard thing to prove medically with standard blood tests or even saliva hormone tests.</p>
<p><strong><em>Adrenal Exhaustion Is Real</em></strong></p>
<p>Donna Blankenship came to me in the late nineties.  She had a high-pressure job and three children.  She explained that she had slowly changed from her super-charged self to an overtired, overstressed, anxious, depressed, dizzy, weak, sick, exhausted young woman.  Her physician prescribed antianxiety drugs and antidepressants.  These made her worse.</p>
<p>Suspecting adrenal exhaustion, we performed a simple <strong>Ragland’s blood pressure test</strong>.  To perform this test, you lie face p for a few minutes and have your blood pressure taken and recorded (leaving the blood pressure cuff on your arm).  You then suddenly stand up and immediately take your blood pressure again.  The act of standing suddenly from a lying-face-up-position initiates an adrenal reaction and a surge of adrenaline to constrict blood vessels quickly to get blood to your brain so you do not faint.  This causes a sudden rise in systolic (the first BP number) blood pressure.</p>
<p>When we performed the test with Donna, she became dizzy, felt she was going to faint, and registered a 15-point drop in her systolic pressure upon standing,  This is a highly indicative of adrenal exhaustion because the systolic BP must rise at least 5 points, preferably 10 points, upon standing to represent a healthy adrenal reaction.  I had Donna chew some <strong><em>Drenamin </em></strong>tablets from Standard Process, sit for 5 minutes, and then undergo the Ragland test again.  The <strong><em>taste response </em></strong>and her body’s ability to immediately absorb some of the Drenamin through the membranes in her mouth caused an immediate adrenal improvement.  The second time her systolic BP actually rose a couple points and she was not dizzy.  I immediately started her on adrenal support nutrition.</p>
<p>The rest is history as Donna continued her supplementation, got slowly better, and finally back to normal in about 6 months.  Since I have seen this hundreds of times, the whole question about whether adrenal exhaustion and its treatment is real seems ridiculous.  Donna’s response, as well as hundreds of others, represents the best of <strong><em>evidence-based medicine</em></strong>. That is, just because something does not fit the standard medical model does not mean that it is not real.  And a response that is obvious to everyone (evidence-based medicine) does not mean that it is not real.  Hans Seyle, the father of the relationship between stress and the body, defined evidence-based medicine when he said, “If I throw an apple out the window and it goes up instead of down, I know that it is significant.”</p>
<p><strong><em>Medical Tips on Adrenal Exhaustion </em></strong></p>
<p>Medical “experts” would have you get several blood and saliva hormone tests to help determine if you suffer from adrenal exhaustion.  This is impractical because your physician will most likely not know what you are talking about.  And it is often useless since there are few real norms for these findings.  The same “experts” suggest that if you insist that you are suffering from adrenal exhaustion, you should use herbs to try to help yourself.  While herbs are helpful, they are, for the most part, incapable of actually rebuilding the strength of a gland.  This comes primarily from lifestyle change and actual nutrition.</p>
<p>Finally, these same “experts” would have you avoid any alternative practitioners, and just stick with your first physician.  This won’t work for the reasons already given in this article.  And the “experts” insist that you do not take the extracts of bovine adrenal because they are useless.  This is partially true since most of these products cannot survive the digestive tract unless they are processed in a very specific, specialized and patented way.</p>
<p>The entire medical concept surrounding the adrenal glands – that your adrenal glands either work or they do not; that they cannot become weakened and then only partially effective like other glands in your body; that antidepressants and antianxiety drugs should be the first course of action; that hormone tests are the only valid tests for adrenal function;  that the Ragland test should be ignored;  and that the restored health of tens of thousands of patients without drugs is due only to a temporary placebo effect – is folly and tantamount to malpractice.</p>
<p>Every physician should have to learn the Ragland test.  And is you suffer the symptoms of adrenal exhaustion, you should do the Ragland test as well.  If you fail the Ragland test and you are sick, you can follow the usual medical tips, which will lead to drugs or a dead end.  Or you can start adrenal nutrition that really works.  You will need <strong><em>Drenamin </em></strong>(6 daily) and <strong><em>Cataplex B </em></strong>(3-6 daily) for 6-12 months.  Herbs that may be helpful with symptoms are high-grade licorice, rehmannia, and withania.</p>
<p>According to medical “experts,” adrenal exhaustion is a worthless diagnosis an all lavish testimonials and anecdotal claims of improvement following some holistic intervention are a fraud or due to placebo effect only.  This is obviously ridiculous!  And I imagine that none of these “experts” has performed a Ragland test on even one patient using the proper supplementation.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A new $10 million study from Oregon Health and Science University published in the <em>Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA, </em>10/3/2010) proved that pills made of one type omega-3 fats (DHA) did not help Alzheimer’s patients.  DHA, like EPA, is one fat found in fish.  The balance of the fats varies from fish to fish and also varies depending on the type of food the fish eat, as well as the enzymes they eat and produce.  For example, cod liver oil is about 10% DHA and 15% EPA.  Since the study fractioned out and used only the DHA, we must assume that it was an oxidized (nonfermented), industrialized supplement in pill form.</p>
<p><span id="more-271"></span></p>
<p>The levels of DHA can be industrially manipulated with high heat and pressure.  I always suggest that these types of supplements be avoided, not only because they are not as biologically active but also because they may carry significant side effects.  In the end, this study shows what is true of most “nutritional supplements.”  Fractionated nutrients simply do not perform like the whole food.  In this case, they did not perform at all.</p>
<p>The discussion about whether omega-3 fats can help Alzheimer’s patients should not be a discussion about whether one fatty acid (DHA) can help or not.  Rather it should be about whether the thousands of nutrients found in natural omega-3 fatty acids-<strong><em>that are not present in any highly-processed or high-DHA fish oil</em></strong>-have the capacity to help people, even those with Alzheimer’s.</p>
<p>This discussion was never addressed by this latest study.  The truth is that all of us in the alternative field have seen Alzheimer’s patients improve with certain oils, including cod liver oil, coconut oil, and more.  For the most part we do not see any improvements in these patients using industrially processed omega-3 supplements.  And we all remain keenly aware that Alzheimer’s is a tough and cruel disease that is resistant to most therapies.</p>
<p>If someone in your family is suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia, you are best to stick with the whole food.  You can learn how to use coconut oil by turning to page 168 of my <em>Encyclopedia of Pragmatic Medicine</em> (yours free with a new <em>Health Alert</em> subscription, renewal, or extension).  The treatment basically consists of eating at least 2 heaping tablespoons of raw coconut oil daily.  I prefer to test using coconut oil while also using fermented whole-food cod liver oil at a dose of 4 capsules daily.  Results are usually seen within 4 to 6 months.</p>

<p>You need to know that in today&#8217;s medical world, a malignant tumor is called cancer. But all medical treatments aims a the tumor are only treating the symptom. <span id="more-260"></span>After all, the cause is the body process or body insult that allowed or led to tumor formation. That is what cancer really is. Today there are still not answers to this disease, and there are no medical treatments at all aimed at the underlying causes of caner. But there are indeed steps you can take to prevent cancer, prevent cancer recurrence, and even to help you treat a cancer that you may have.</p>

<p>Poor food combining is not the cause of everyone’s indigestion. But since it is simple and free, you should test to see if food combining can help with your problems. The bare-bones basics of food combining are that starches and proteins do not go together. Vegetables go with everything except fruit. Fruit should be eaten alone. That’s it.</p>
<p><span id="more-255"></span><br />
The only hard part is to stop combining protein with starch and protein with bread. Just about everyone has gotten into the bad habit of eating too much bread and eating bread with all meals. This habit promotes indigestion, heartburn, and diabetes. Everyone would feel better, lose weight, gain better control of their blood sugar, and take a giant step toward eliminating heartburn if they quit eating 95% of the bread they now consume.</p>
<p>As for eliminating the combination of protein with starch, you will need to stop eating meat, chicken, fish, eggs, or beans with potatoes, rice or pasta. Instead, have these protein food with lots of steamed vegetables and a big salad. Conversely, have a starch dinner, such as spaghetti or pasta, with a great homemade marinara (or some other sauce), perhaps some vegetables, and a big salad. Just eliminate the meatballs.<br />
And when you make a great salad, please do not ruin it with horrible, bottled or packaged store-bought salad dressings. These are an abomination that your body cannot digest. Instead use extra-virgin, first-pressed olive oil or some raw flax oil. Combine it with some organic apple cider or balsamic vinegar, and add the spices that you like. Getting into the habit of a large salad before dinner will go a long way toward helping you feel better, look better, and lose weight.</p>
<p>So eat two or three hours before bedtime, combine your foods properly, eat only until you feel full, drink only pure water with dinner, and kiss your drugs — that is, Mylanta®, Rolaids®, and all the other exotic acid blockers and stoppers — goodbye. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My experience has taught me that adrenal exhaustion is a real condition that causes serious problems, including exhaustion, chronic fatigue, malaise, light-headedness, chronic colds, and a feeling as if life is a constant struggle of walking uphill. Most medical “experts” feel that adrenal exhaustion is a hoax. Even Dr. Andrew Weil rejects the idea that constant stress weakens your adrenal glands, causing health problems.</p>
<p>Perhaps the grandest rejection of all comes from the president of the American Institute of Stress, Dr. Paul Rosch, a clinical professor of medicine and psychiatry at New York Medical College.<span id="more-249"></span> He says that adrenal fatigue or exhaustion is a worthless diagnosis, and that lavish testimonials and anecdotal claims of marked improvement following some intervention are most likely fraudulent or transient placebo effects.<br />
In fact, the adrenals are almond-sized glands that sit atop the kidneys. They produce hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. They are the prime responders to chronic stress—for example, they enlarge during periods of sever stress. And the reason most physicians have little opinion about the diagnosis of adrenal exhaustion is because they do not understand it.<br />
Most physicians support the belief that the adrenal glands are either working or they are not. When they are not working, the diagnosis is adrenal insufficiency or Addison’s disease, caused primarily by a tumor, cancer, autoimmune disease, or infection. For most of the medical world there is no <em><strong>gray zone</strong></em> where the adrenals slowly wear down and become weak. Even though other glands and organs routinely weaken, enlarge, shrink, or change function (such as the thyroid gland), the medical world believes that this does not pertain to adrenal glands. And, in fact, adrenal exhaustion is a hard thing to prove medically with standard blood tests or even saliva hormone tests.</p>
<h2>Adrenal Exhaustion is Real</h2>
<p>There is a story of a woman coming to see a Chiropractor in the late nineties. She had a high-pressure job and three children.  She explained that she had slowly changed from her super-charged self to an overtired, overstressed, anxious, depressed, dizzy, weak, sick, exhausted young woman. Her physician prescribed anti-anxiety drugs and  antidepressants. These made her worse.<br />
Suspecting adrenal exhaustion, the doctor performed a simple <strong><em>Ragland’s blood pressure test</em></strong>. To perform this test, you lie face up for a few minutes and have your blood pressure taken and recorded (leaving the blood pressure cuff off your arm). You then suddenly stand up and immediately take your blood pressure again. The act of standing suddenly from a lying-face-up position initiates an adrenal reaction and a surge of the adrenaline to constrict blood vessels quickly to get blood to your brain so you do not faint. This causes a sudden rise in systolic (the first BP number) blood pressure.<br />
When the test was performed with this woman, she became dizzy, felt she was going to faint, and registered a 15-point drop in her systolic pressure upon standing. This is highly indicative of adrenal exhaustion because the systolic BP must rise at least 5 points, preferably 10 points, upon standing to represent a health adrenal reaction. The doctor had her chew some <em><strong>Drenamin</strong></em> tables from Standard Process, sit for 5 minutes, and then undergo the Ragland test again. The taste response and her body&#8217;s ability to immediately absorb some of the Drenamin through the membranes in her mouth caused an immediate adrenal improvement.  The second time her systolic BP actually rose a couple points and she was not dizzy. The doctor immediately started her on adrenal support nutrition.<br />
The rest is history and the woman continued her supplementation, got slowly better and finally back to normal in about 6 months. Since then, this same thing as been seen hundreds of times, the whole question about whether adrenal exhaustion and its treatment is real seems ridiculous. This woman&#8217;s response, as well as hundreds of others, represents the best of the evidence-based medicine. That is, just because something does not fit the standard medical model does not mean that it is not real. And a response that is obvious to everyone (evidence-based- medicine) does mean that it is real. Hans Seyle, the father of the relationship between stress and the body, defined evidence-based medicine when he said, “ If I throw an apple out the window and it goes up instead of down, I know that it is significant.”</p>
<h2>Medical Tips on Adrenal Exhaustion</h2>
<p>Medical “experts” would have you get several blood and saliva hormone tests to help determine if you suffer from adrenal exhaustion. This is impractical because your physician will most likely not know what you are talking about. And it is often useless since there are few real norms for these findings. The same “experts&#8221; suggest that if you insist that you are suffering from adrenal exhaustion, you should use herbs to try and help yourself. While herbs are helpful, they are, for the most part, incapable of actually rebuilding the strength of the gland. This comes primarily from lifestyle change and actual nutrition.<br />
Finally, these same “experts” would have you avoid any alternative practitioners, and just stick with your physician. This wont work for the reasons already given in this blog. And the “experts” insist that you do not take extracts of bovine adrenal because they are useless. This is partially true since most of these products cannot survive the digestive tract unless they are processed in a very specific, specialized, and patented way.<br />
The entire medical concept surrounding the adrenal glands—that your adrenal glands either work or they do not; that they cannot become weakened and then only partially effective like other glands in your body; that antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs should be the first course of action; that hormone tests are the only valid tests for adrenal function; that the Ragland test should be ignored; and that restored health of tens of thousands of patients without drugs is due only to a temporary placebo effect—is folly and tantamount to malpractice.<br />
Every physician should have to learn the Ragland test. And if you suffer the symptoms of adrenal exhaustion, you should o the Ragland test as well. If you fail the Ragland test and you are sick, you can follow the usual medical tips, which will lead to drugs or a dead end. Or you can start adrenal nutrition that really works. You will need Dranamin (6 daily) and Cataplex B (3-6 daily) for 6-12 months. Herbs that may be helpful with symptoms are high-grade licorice, rehmannia, and withania.<br />
According to medical “experts”, adrenal exhaustion is a worthless diagnosis and all lavish testimonials and anecdotal claims of improvement following some holistic intervention are a fraud or due to placebo effect only. This is obviously ridiculous! And I imagine that none of these “experts” has performed a Ragland test on even on patient using the proper supplementation.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Over the past 20 years, drugmakers have touted statin (cholesterol-lowering) drugs as a cure for just about everything. The main claim—reducing the number of heart attacks and strokes—cannot even be proven, except for a small subset of patients with specific types of heart disease. Nonetheless, a relentless PR campaign by the manufacturers has convinced doctors and patients alike that these drugs are a panacea. They have been purported to help osteoporosis, cancer, memory, brain function, hormonal problems and even keep you young. And it has paid off—to the tune of billions of dollars in profit annually. The problem is that this is all bunk, hype and nothing more than PR to sell more of these drugs. And worse, your doctor may still believe this rubbish.<span id="more-244"></span></p>
<p>A study of over 2 million patients talking statin drugs, age 30-84, was reported in the <em>British Medical Journal</em> (May 2010). Titled &#8220;Unintended effects of statins in men and women in England and Wales: Population based cohort study using the QResearch database,&#8221; it showed that statins&#8217; supposed unintended benefits—that help just about every  health problem—are a big bunch of drug-selling hoopla. In fact, these drugs failed to show any unintended benefits for anything except a slight improvement in the rate of cancer of the esophagus.</p>
<p>Statins did, however cause a lot of damage and side effects. The major side effects were liver and kidney damage, muscle damage, and cataracts. So if you have started these drugs, and if your health begins to go downhill, you must always suspect the drug as the cause. Whenever you damage your liver or kidneys, you can expect serious health problems. But perhaps the least expected problem was the increases incidence of cataracts.</p>
<p>Millions of statin-takers suffer from serious muscle problems including weakness and pain, live problems with all kinds of repercussions, unexplained cataracts, and even <strong>acute kidney failure</strong> with major health implications. And even after quitting the statins, the damage can last for up to three years. Just how many people are improperly diagnosed when their doctors fail to recognize statins as the cause of their problems in unknown. Many of those improperly diagnosed patients are incorrectly prescribed more prescription drugs to treat the problems caused by the statins. This dramatically complicates the whole health picture.</p>
<p>You have two simple ways to avoid this type of health disaster. The obvious way is to avoid statin drugs altogether. The second way is to immediately suspect your drug as the cause of any new health problems, and to quit the drug, no matter what your doctor says.</p>
<p>Once you look at real statistics on absolute benefit from the statin drugs versus the potential health damage caused by them, it is easy to see that the medical cholesterol-screening, cholesterol-lowering, and cholesterol-phobia (the irrational fear of cholesterol) is a giant scam to sell drugs.</p>
<h2><em>What About Statins for Heart Disease?</em></h2>
<p>One more time about the<strong><em> $17 billion annual fantasy</em></strong> of the statins for heart disease&#8230;Yet another study, this time a meta-analysis (study of 11 previous studies) of more than 60,000 people, showed that most statin use is a scam. The study proved that &#8220;for patients without established heart disease, statins are more risky than helpful.&#8221;</p>
<p>More than 75% of statin use is by people without established heart disease <em><strong>who are trying to prevent heart attacks and strokes</strong></em>. These are the folks whose doctor recommended a statin to prevent a heart attacks. Or those who actually believe that these drugs can help prevent heart attacks and strokes. These <em><strong>millions of people</strong></em> are spending more than <strong><em>$12,750,000</em></strong> on drugs that not only fail to achieve the desires results, but actually cause more harm than good!</p>
<p>Even for the folks who have established heart disease, the benefit-to-risk ratio of statins is questionable at best. Today, when you see a physician and you have circulatory problems, a clot, or high blood pressure, you are simply told that the cause is cholesterol. You are prescribed statins, and that is it. Just how did this game come about, and how can it be maintained? The answer is simple. As with all things in health care, just <strong><em>follow the money</em></strong>—in this case, <strong><em>$17 billion annually</em></strong>—and that is just for the drugs. When you throw in the doctor visits, hospitalizations, and all the res, it is one truly ingenious American business phenomenon—nothing more.</p>
